Last night was our first REAL performance in front
of an audience of our parents. It was a nerve-wracking time for the entire cast
as we saw our parents file in, take their seats and become ‘the house’ (audience).
As the performance went on, there were a few people
who forgot their lines however they made it work with the scene, trying not to
fail the scene. The whole cast supported each other and attempted to help those
people out.
On the sidelines (offstage), we all had to watch
the scenes while acting like our characters in semi-still positions, making
sure that we weren’t drawing attention away from what was happening on stage;
we tried to do minimum movement as possible, in the wings, while we weren’t
performing.
In the lunch scene that I was in, it turned out
very good and, even though I mixed up one of my lines, Iris and Yasmin were
there to make sure that it was hardly noticeable. I think that the scene had
obvious friendship-chemistry between us, which made the scene look even more
believable! We used props, in the scene, to symbolize the food that they would’ve
been eating at lunch however the majority of us didn’t eat or open anything so
that it didn’t disrupt the scene or make it harder to act around; we just loosely
fiddled with the items, as if we were about to eat them.
In the final scene, that I was also in, it rounded
off the play in a brilliant way by showing why William was in a mental hospital
and the group scream at the end really completed the play! I was very happy
that I was able to get tears to come out of my eyes for the scene and that everyone
was able to show brilliant emotion.
Overall, I think that Punk Rock was a very
successful play for a first proper performance together.
